Healthy Relationships with Caring Adults are

Critical to Success

We believe that there are few things more important to a young person’s development than sustained, nurturing relationships with caring adults. BronxConnect’s excellent staff, who come from the very communities our youth come from, are the backbone of our success. Youth need caring adults who will “speak the truth in love” and provide the necessary support to ensure that their needs are met: helping youth stay on track towards the goals they have set for themselves so they may gain the skills needed to become productive adults.

Since its inception, BronxConnect has recruited staff and mentors from the community whose backgrounds mirrored our youth’s life experiences. These leaders, now called “Credible Messengers,” are the best models of change for our youth. We are proud to report that 25 percent of BronxConnect’s full-time staff are incarceration survivors; with all staff having overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to become exemplary leaders in our community. Those who have experienced the horrors of mass incarceration are best positioned to lead in the dismantling of this unjust immoral travesty.
